Designed for youth ready to be away for a week, filled with activities and new experiences.

Who:  Junior Camp is for youth entering 4th–6th grades.

When:  The program is offered during the summer months. See program schedule for dates.

Schedule:  Here is a brief snapshot of your child’s time at camp:

Sunday:

Registration is between 2:00pm–5:00pm.  (You are invited to stay for dinner at 6:00pm.  Just let us know at registration!)  Your child will meet their counselor, get settled into the cabin, and play some get-to-know-you games while waiting for the rest of the campers to arrive.  After dinner that evening, campers sing songs, tour camp, and are heartily welcomed to camp with an orientation and introductions to staff members.  Campers enjoy time at the camp store (canteen) where they can enjoy snacks, priced at $0.75 and limited to one item to eat and one item to drink.  Worship around the campfire closes out the day.  Campers reflect on their day with a devotion led by the counselor in the cabin.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday:

Breakfast begins each day at 8:00am followed by singing on the back deck of the main lodge.  Worship follows breakfast and is held in the outdoor chapel, the meadow, or one of many other beautiful spots at Luther Heights.  Bible study follows worship and involves reading the Bible along with interactive activities, games or crafts to bring active learning into the experience.

Your child has the opportunity to sign up for a half-day horseback ride ($30.00).  We partner with Mystic Saddle Ranch only 20 miles from Luther Heights.  We provide the transportation to and from the ranch and leave the guiding and safety to the professionals at Mystic Saddle.  A staff member from Luther Heights accompanies the youth on the ride as well.  Usually, these rides happen Monday or Tuesday of the week.

The evenings of each day involves playing an all–camp game, snacks at the camp store, and worship around the campfire.

Thursday:

Also known as “Beach Day” — Thursday is another action–packed day at camp.  After breakfast and morning worship, cabin groups will dive into Bible study and then hit the trail for the beach at Alturas Lake.  The hike (about 1.5 miles) is worth it as campers spend the day at the beach, enjoying a beach lunch of hotdogs and all the fixings.  If your child is not a swimmer, many beach activities await — arts and crafts, sandcastle building, and minute mysteries are common beach activities.  Thursday evening also brings a special worship experience.

Friday:

Bible study, packing, and closing activities happen on this last day, with a closing worship right before lunch at noon.  Campers say goodbye and head home after lunch.

Cost:  See Program Costs page for more information.
