Introduction to Camp
A shortened program designed to be action-packed, meaningful, and fun for these little ones!
Who: Introduction to Camp is for children entering 1st-3rd grades.
When: The program is offered during the summer months. See program schedule for dates.
Schedule: Here is a brief snapshot of your child’s time at camp:
1st day (either Saturday or Tuesday):
Registration is between 2:00pm-5:00pm. (You are invited to stay for dinner at 6:00pm. Just let us know at registration!) Your child will meet their counselor, get settled into the cabin, and play some get-to-know-you games while waiting for the rest of the campers to arrive. After dinner that evening, campers sing songs, tour camp, and are heartily welcomed to camp with an orientation and introductions to staff members. Campers enjoy time at the camp store (canteen) where they can enjoy snacks, priced at $0.75 and limited to one item to eat and one item to drink. Worship around the campfire closes out the day. Campers reflect on their day with a devotion led by the counselor in the cabin.
2nd & 3rd days (Some programs are only 3 days long and the beach or hike option will be chosen based on weather):
Breakfast begins each day at 8:00am followed by singing on the back deck of the main lodge. Worship follows breakfast and is held in the outdoor chapel, the meadow, or one of many other beautiful spots at Luther Heights. Bible study follows worship and involves reading the Bible along with interactive activities, games or crafts to bring active learning into the experience.
One day will be spent at the beach at Lake Alturas where campers enjoy a beach lunch and time in and around the water, with counselor and lifeguard supervision. The other day will include a day hike with a lunch out on the trail. Canoe rides with a counselor also happen at Alturas Lake. Quiet time is part of the afternoon where stories are read, letters can be written, or naps can be taken!
The evenings of both days involve playing games, snacks at the camp store, and worship around the campfire.
Last day:
Bible study, packing, and closing activities happen on this last day, with a closing worship right before lunch at noon. Campers say goodbye and head home after lunch.
Cost: See Program Costs page for more information.
