Day Camp

Designed in partnership with congregations to provide youth with a Christ-centered camp experience in their hometown!

Who:  Day Camp is for youth entering 1st–6th grades.  Also, adults, Jr. and Sr. high youth are needed as volunteers.

Schedule: Here is a brief snapshot of what day camp looks like:

Saturday:

Staff from Luther Heights arrive in your town and stay with host families.

Sunday:

Staff members from Luther Heights attend worship services at your congregation and are ready to offer a skit, music, and other leadership during the service. 1:00–3:00pm “Day Camp Kick–off.” This is a great way to get campers and parents alike excited about the week of day camp to come!  Often held at a nearby park or at your church.  Here is what the kick–off can look like:

12:30 Congregational pot luck at the park/church yard

1:00 Large group games

1:30 Opening worship — parents invited and encouraged to stay
After worship, while everyone is still gathered, do brief introductions of staff.

2:00 Break into age groups for “get to know you” games and short Bible study.
Parents are invited to visit with Luther Heights coordinator about the day camp program during this small group time.

2:30 Large group activity

2:45 Closing worship

3:00 Departure

Monday–Thursday Typical Day Camp Schedule (8:00am–3:00)

8:00 Staff arrive at church or park (whichever has been designated)

9:00 Arrival of campers

9:15 Morning worship

9:30 Bible study
Also, when finished with Bible study, do small group games, etc…

10:15 Large group game

10:30 Snacks

10:40 Large group game/nature activity

11:30 Songs

11:45 Lunch in small groups
Also time for stories, quiet time, games

12:15 Craft time — in small group

1:30 Snacks
Also a time for large group games

2:15 Small group Bible study
Plan roundup, finish crafts, clean up

2:40 Closing Worship
(Including roundups as worship skits)

3:00 Departure of campers
(Through the “gates.” Campers can only depart when they have made eye contact and can point out the person who is picking them up.)
