Event Description:
The 1st annual Jon Francis Race to Lake Alturas is a five kilometer race that will take place at Luther Heights Bible Camp, near Lake Alturas in the Stanley Basin. The race will start at LHBC and end on Cabin Creek Road. A route map will be available soon. Driving directions to Luther Heights can be found on the directions page.
This race has been organized in memory of Jon Francis, a former Luther Heights counselor. Jon went hiking on Grand Mogul peak and did not return. The proceeds from this race will be donated to Luther Heights Bible Camp and the Jon Francis Foundation.
The race is limited to 100 runners, so plan early to join us.
Information on Luther Heights programs and housing options for participants will be available soon.
Event Schedule:
Packet pick-up will begin at 9:30 at Luther Heights.
The race will start at 10:00. Awards will be given out at the completion of the race. Refreshments and food will be available after the race.
Race Registration:
Registration for the Jon Francis Race to Lake Alturas will open up June 1st and will go until July 1st August 21st. Only one hundred (100) entries will be allowed. After the first fourteen days of registration the race will be publicly advertised to fill the remaining spaces.

T-Shirts Available:
If you would like to support the foundation without registering for the race, T-Shirts are available for order. The cost is $15 and can be ordered by contacting Mark or Micah Drew at mldcollege@juno.com. When ordering please provide your name, shirt size (s/m/l), address and phone number.
Accommodations:
Housing for Friday night is available at Luther Heights Bible Camp for $30 per person, including dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday. Housing for Saturday night is also an option. Contact Pastor Eric Olsen at or Michelle Chandler at to reserve a bed in a cabin.

Jon Francis Foundation Information
The Jon Francis Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is "to provide families with information, logistical, and emotional support during a wilderness search and rescue operation and to increase knowledge and awareness of wilderness safety to reduce incidents of loss." The Jon Francis Foundation is important for many supporters of Luther Heights Bible Camp because Jon Francis was a former staff member who disappeared while hiking in July 2006. The Foundation was started by his family and friends as to serve other families facing similar situations.
